Missing Teeth
There are several different options for patients missing one or more teeth. A dental implant, for example, can replace a single missing tooth. While they might look like real teeth, implants are made with titanium cylinders that are surgically placed in the jawbone to fill in gaps. Similarly, a bridge is used when one or a few teeth are missing. The bridge uses the remaining teeth on either side of the gap to help secure the replacement tooth or teeth.
If many or all of a person’s teeth are missing, dentures may be the best solution. Dental technology has substantially improved in recent years, providing several types of dentures for patients to choose from. In fact, modern dentures are more comfortable than their predecessors and offer a much more realistic appearance for easy wear and a natural look.
Deficient Teeth
Even when a natural tooth remains in place, it may not be in good condition. When teeth are worn down, misshapen, discolored, chipped or marred by a large filling or fracture, repair may be a better option than replacement. In these cases, a prosthodontist may suggest a crown or veneer to protect the existing tooth and improve its appearance.
Rutgers Health University Dental Associates also offers full mouth reconstruction services when necessary. Full mouth reconstruction can help patients who have multiple dental issues that need to be addressed. It's also a good solution for those with conditions or birth defects that affect the mouth and hinder function and/or diminish appearance.
