Orthodontics in Newark and New Brunswick, NJ

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the positioning of teeth and jaws. We have a team of highly-qualified orthodontists who have experience treating patients of all ages. Whether you’re unhappy with your smile or have issues biting and chewing, our doctors can help.

Diagnosing Orthodontic Conditions

Orthodontics can help treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Overbite (“buck teeth”)
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Gaps or spacing between teeth
  • Misplaced midline

In order to determine whether orthodontic treatment is a good option for you, the orthodontist will perform a thorough exam. They’ll take pictures and X-rays and review your complete dental and medical history. They’ll also check to see if your teeth and gums are healthy before moving forward with treatment. In some cases, teeth may need to be pulled first or you may need gum surgery to prepare your mouth for braces.

Types of Braces

Braces apply gentle pressure to your teeth to slowly reposition them over time. Our New Brunswick and Newark, NJ facilities both offer a variety of braces to accommodate all of our patients’ needs and preferences. The types of braces vary in price, length of time required and appearance. Some types may only be available to certain age groups. Similarly, patients with severe cases may not be eligible for every type.

Traditional Metal Braces

This is the most common type. Metal wires and brackets go over the front of your teeth. They can be customized with colorful elastic bands.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are similar to metal ones, except they are tooth-colored for a more discrete appearance.

Lingual Braces

These are metal braces that get attached to the back of the teeth, instead of the front, so that they are not visible.

Invisalign

Invisalign clear aligners are a popular option for teens and adults. Patients wear a series of removable trays over their teeth. Because they are clear, they are barely visible.
