Types of Braces

If your dentist recommends braces, there are several different options to choose from at our clinics. While traditional metal braces may be the first thing that comes to mind, today's dental patients can also opt for more discrete styles that minimize the impact of braces on their appearance. Fortunately, no matter which type of braces you select, you'll be able to enjoy a straighter, healthier smile.

Metal Braces

Metal braces are the most common – and the most affordable. Metal braces utilize a bracket that fits over the front of the teeth and gradually pushes them into the right position. While they may be highly visible, metal braces deliver faster results. Modern metal braces are also smaller than their predecessors, and they won't discolor or stain over time. Plus, kids will enjoy customizing their smiles with colorful rubber bands.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are similar to metal braces, except they are made with a material that blends easily with the natural color of your teeth for a less obtrusive look. They’re a great option for anyone who needs braces but doesn’t want them to show. However, they do require extra care in order to prevent staining.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are also similar to metal braces. This time, however, they’re attached to the back of the teeth instead of the front. This makes them completely invisible when you smile. They’re typically recommended for patients who only need slight adjustments.

Invisalign

With Invisalign, there are no brackets and wires. Instead, aligners fit over the top of your teeth and offer a clear design that can help you feel more confident while talking and smiling. You'll receive new aligners every few weeks as your teeth straighten until you've achieved the desired results. There are many reasons you might choose Invisalign braces, but keep in mind that this method can be slower than traditional options.

Which Type is Right for Me?

Your dentist will help determine which type of braces is best for you based on the condition of your teeth, your age, and other factors, such as whether or not you want them to be visible. You’ll also have to consider how long you want to wear braces, as some styles require more time than others to deliver results.
