Diagnostic Sciences - Predoctoral Education

The predoctoral curriculum in Diagnostic Sciences encompasses the range of divisions described below.

Oral Diagnosis/Treatment Planning/Emergency/Nutrition

Oral Diagnosis deals with obtaining, recording and evaluating information that contributes to the identification of abnormalities in the oral cavity, head and neck region. Such information is used to establish a diagnosis and subsequent treatment plan. In the Emergency/Urgent Care Clinic, patients with emergencies are diagnosed and treatment is arranged. Nutrition courses educate dental students on the role of diet and nutrition in prevention and management of oral diseases, oral manifestations of systemic diseases and dental procedures and services. Services are provided to registered patients of the Dental School as well as those who are not currently receiving active treatment.

Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology

Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology is concerned with the diagnosis and management of diseases and abnormalities of the oral and maxillofacial region through the interpretation of images.

Oral Medicine

The Division of Oral Medicine is responsible for teaching the diagnosis and primarily nonsurgical treatment of diseases of the oral cavity, including the mucosa, salivary glands and the surrounding structures. Oral Medicine is also concerned with the safe and effective treatment of medially complex patient.

Oral Pathology
