Thursday Talks: Aaisha Mapkar ’24

This week, we are featuring Aaisha Mapkar of the Class of 2024, who shared her experiences as a dental student at Rutgers.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do here at RSDM.

I’ve always been very passionate about learning and expanding my horizons. I feel like dentistry is one of those fields you can do that with because it’s constantly evolving. At RSDM, I recently entered the clinic and every day especially feels like a new learning experience.

For how long have you been here, and why did you decide to come to RSDM?

I’ve been at RSDM for two and a half years. I decided to come here because after doing undergrad at Rutgers it seemed like a seamless transition. It was definitely a cost-effective decision and commuting from home is really ideal.

What do you like the most about RSDM?

I really like the sense of community at RSDM! Working with the clinic faculty while treating patients has been one of my best hands-on learning experiences at school. I’ve also learned so much from upperclassmen and international students in my class, which really highlighted the strong sense of community at the school. Being an orientation leader in my second year allowed me to integrate new students into our school, and I hope to continue playing a part in strengthening the camaraderie at RSDM!

What do you enjoy doing outside the school?

Outside of school I really enjoy reading, baking, and drawing. It’s always nice to have various hobbies that help me destress after schoolwork, and they are all definitely an integral part of my week!
