Opposition to community water fluoridation has been rising in recent years, fueled by anti-fluoride activists.  When the Centers for Disease Control lowered its guidelines for fluoride levels in water supplies, many interpreted it as a commentary on the dangers of fluoride. But nothing could be further from the truth, writes RSDM Dean Cecile A. Feldman.

Read the dean's op-ed,  which ran as a guest column in The Star-Ledger last month. She also explores why Jersey has one of the lowest rates of water fluoridation in the U.S.

"It's been more than 50 years since community water fluoridation was denounced by fearful citizens as a Communist plot to undermine America. But in recent years, a new wave of distrust has surrounded fluoridation, ranked by the Centers for Disease Control among the top ten great public health achievements of the 20th century."
