Pediatric Dentistry Clinic

Whether your child is due for a check-up or has an immediate dental need, the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine’s Pediatric Dentistry Clinic can provide excellent care. Children will be treated by graduate students who are licensed dentists working to become specialists in pediatric dentistry and dental school students treating patients under the supervision of our expert faculty.

Referrals

  • We are accepting referrals from dentists and other health care professionals.
  • Our department provides care in the pediatric clinic in the dental school using local anesthesia (novocaine), nitrous oxide (laughing gas), and sedation given orally when appropriate. We also offer treatment at University Hospital under general anesthesia if necessary.
  • The first visit will be an examination to determine your child’s dental needs and the best method of providing treatment.

  • Examinations and cleanings for infants, toddlers, school-age children, and adolescents
  • Digital X-rays
  • Sealants
  • Restoration of decayed teeth
  • Special Care dentistry
  • Basic oral surgery for the child
  • Sedation and General Anesthesia as necessary
  • Emergency care

What To Bring To Your First Appointment

  • Current insurance card
  • Current NJ driver’s license or passport
  • Proof of address
  • Referral form (if available)

What To Expect

A parent or legal guardian must be present at appointments for dental treatment to be performed. The initial visit will consist of an examination, possible cleaning, fluoride therapy, and/or X-rays. A student or resident will discuss treatment options with you, and you are encouraged to ask any questions regarding your child's dental health and planned care. Your child will be assigned to the most appropriate provider for treatment.
