Oral Medicine Clinic

The Oral Medicine Clinic at the Rutgers University School of Dental Medicine is dedicated to the relief of pain and suffering through diagnosis and primarily non-surgical management of local and medically-related conditions which affect the oral mucosa, salivary glands and the surrounding structures. The clinic also provides training for students and health professionals in the diagnosis and management of oral medicine conditions. To schedule an appointment please call 973-972-4242.

Referrals

The Oral Medicine Clinic accepts referrals from all departments at RSDM as well as University Hospital and community providers. • Referral slip (if being referred)
  • List of medications and medical problems
  • Copies of recent x-rays, if applicable

What To Expect

The first visit will involve taking a thorough medical history, examination, imaging as needed, and discussion of the treatment plan. Treatment of these conditions relies on accurate diagnosis and when necessary, the clinician performs a biopsy by removing a small piece of tissue in the mouth for evaluation. This will generally start on the second appointment but may occur on the first visit in certain emergency cases. Management of some of these conditions requires an interdisciplinary approach involving a team of clinicians.
