Thursday Talks: Joy Chang ’24

This week, we are featuring Joy Chang, who recently started her final year at RSDM’s DMD program.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do at RSDM.

I just started my fourth year at RSDM. As a third year, I was taking a handful of didactic classes but also seeing patients in the undergraduate clinic daily. On campus, I am the president of the American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD) and serve as the secretary of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA).

For how long have you been here, and why did you decide to come to RSDM?

I started at Rutgers in 2019 at the School of Graduate Studies at RBHS and have been in dental school for over 3 years now. After speaking with many dental students throughout the application and interviewing process, it was clear to me that the students at RSDM thought highly of its clinical program. While I knew that it is impossible to have all the skills at the end of graduation, I wanted to get the best clinical education I could, and the place for me was RSDM.

What do you like the most about RSDM?

One thing that I have come to truly appreciate every day is the quality of faculty here. Faculty members will not only help teach you and guide you through your cases, but they will also be your biggest cheerleaders at the end of the day. I truly appreciate the guidance and mentorship that our faculty provide us and feel lucky to be learning from some of the very best.

What do you enjoy doing outside the school?

I love to cook and eat food! I love trying new recipes at home and new restaurants wherever I am. There is something so special about connecting with friends and family over a yummy meal.
