Bio

My research focuses on the antimicrobial effect of human lactoferrin against various oral microbes. My team has successfully established experimentally induced periodontal disease, dental caries and oral candidiasis and systemic infections caused by Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans respectively in a mouse model. In addition, my ongoing research explores determining the effect of iron deficiency anemia in oral diseases. The results of my work will contribute to the understanding the role of IDA in oral diseases and provide novel approaches to prevention of these diseases. In addition, he is focusing on how iron deficiency anemia can alter oral and fecal microbiome. I’ve also successfully identified a naturally occurring group of organosulfur compounds with a significant potential to be used as an alternative therapy to treat oral and systemic diseases.
