This lecture is intended to cover nuances in pharmacology, internal medicine, infection control, ethics, and substance use disorder as pertaining to the practice of dentistry. The most important traditional and recent medications that affect dentistry are discussed. Conventional and evolving infections are discussed with a view of infection control techniques in dentistry. Further, this presentation will also touch base on professional ethics in dentistry and a brief review of diagnostics in dentistry.

Learning Objectives:

1. To learn the potential impact of medications, including recent drugs, on dental treatment. 

2. To review infection control settings in clinical dentistry.

3. To briefly review the cornerstones of professional ethics and New Jersey law concerning the practice of dentistry. 

4. To review the latest in opioid prescriptions and research regarding addiction.
