Smile Design is an integral part of modern dentistry, focusing on creating esthetically pleasing smiles tailored to each patient. A harmonious and balanced smile requires a multidisciplinary approach to address any discrepancies in white and pink esthetics, including Excessive Gingival Display and other concerns. Periodontal, Peri-implant, and Facial Plastic Procedures offer an array of options, from Esthetic Crown Lengthening to Lip Repositioning for improving smile esthetics.

This presentation will discuss the art and science of smile design based on patients’ unique facial and dental features. A comprehensive treatment algorithm will be elaborated from periodontal, restorative, and orthodontic perspectives, and clinical case discussions would demonstrate evidence-based approaches and their patient-centered outcomes in short- and long-term.

Objectives:

Participants will understand:

  • The principles of Smile Design and the indications of Esthetic Crown Lengthening and Modified Lip Repositioning Surgery with an updated Decision Tree.
  • The importance of a multidisciplinary approach in correcting Excessive Gingival Display and other esthetic discrepancies from restorative, periodontal, and orthodontic aspects.
  • The patient-reported outcomes of modern approaches with evidence-based modifications.
