Root Canal Retreatment

If you had a root canal but are still experiencing pain, swelling, or discomfort, you might need additional treatment. Even though most root canal procedures are successful and long-lasting, there are some cases where problems may occur. To alleviate your pain, seek out endodontic retreatment and surgery from the team at our clinics.

Retreatment Gives Your Tooth a Second Chance

There are several reasons why retreatment may be required. A root canal is a delicate procedure in which dentists have to treat the complex inner workings of the tooth. Sometimes, hidden areas of the canal go untreated or the canal becomes contaminated. If either problem occurs, the tooth isn’t able to heal correctly.

Other times, problems may develop even if the initial root canal was successful. This can happen if the tooth becomes fractured, if the crown breaks or if new decay develops later on. In cases like this, your dentist may recommend retreatment or apicoectomy (endodontic surgery).

Endodontic Retreatment from Dentists You Trust

The idea of undergoing retreatment may seem daunting, but remember, it’s generally best to preserve your natural teeth if you can. Without retreatment, your tooth pain may continue to persist or worsen; infection may also develop. The retreatment process itself should be familiar, as it is very similar to having a standard root canal performed.

For peace of mind, our team uses cutting-edge equipment to make sure retreatment goes as smoothly as possible. With help from technology such as digital radiography, operating microscopes, and cone beam CT scanning, we’re able to get a closer look at the tooth canal and identify problem areas that may have been undetected before.

Schedule Retreatment Surgery

If you're experiencing pain or swelling caused by a failed root canal or new tooth problems after a root canal, it's best to seek help right away. Contact our highly trained dentists in New Brunswick or Newark and schedule an appointment today by filling in the form below.
