Becoming a Patient at the RSDM Orthodontic Department
The Graduate Orthodontic Clinic is located on the D level of the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. Patients are treated by orthodontic residents under the close supervision of part-time or full-time faculty members in the Department of Orthodontics.
Orthodontic training at RSDM is provided in a three-year program accredited by the American Dental Association. The postgraduate students are dentists (DDS or DMD) who are being trained as specialists in orthodontics. Orthodontic faculty are dentists (DDS or DMD) who have completed 2-3 years of specialty training in an accredited orthodontic residency program beyond their 4 years of dental school training.
The Screening Examination
Most orthodontic screening examinations are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The purpose of the Screening Examination is to evaluate if the patients orthodontic needs are appropriate for teaching post graduate students. Eligibility for becoming a patient of the Orthodontic Clinic depends on the type and severity of the patient's orthodontic needs. A $50 fee for the screening examination is due at the time of the examination. Payment made in cash, check or credit card.

Fee Schedule and Payment
Fees for orthodontic treatment vary depending on the type of dental malocclusion and its severity. Typical fees for full orthodontic treatment at the graduate clinic are $3,000 to $3,300 for adolescents and $3,600 - $3,800 for adults. This does not include the cost for extractions, periodontal surgery, orthognathic surgery or other adjunctive dental procedures requested by the orthodontists. In addition, fees for excessive breakage or missed appointments may be assessed.
