Q. Do I have to complete my pre-dental requirements and take DAT in order to be considered for an interview?
A. Yes, most pre-dental requirements should completed and DAT taken.

Q. Do AP (advanced placement) courses count towards my pre-dental requirements?
A. No.

Q. What are the average grade point and DAT scores of the most recent entering class?
A. The 2017 entering class (Class of 2021) had an average science GPA of 3.5, average overall GPA of 3.6, average DAT-Academic Average score of 21.3, average DAT- Total Science score of 21.8.

Q. How do I receive information and an application for the Dental Admission Test?
A. Applications and information can be obtained from the American Dental Associations website www.ada.org

Q. When should I take the DAT?
A. You are encouraged to take the exam no later than fall of the year prior to the year you intend to matriculate. Interviews cannot be granted until your DAT scores are received.

Q. What is the oldest DAT scores you accept?
A. 3 years prior to the admissions cycle.

Q. Do you require a minimum GPA or DAT score?
A. No. The RSDM Admissions Committee implements a "holistic file" review process when screening applications and selecting candidates.

Q. How do I obtain an application for the DMD program?
A. RSDM participates in a centralized application service; Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS). You must complete this application online.

Q. Where do I send my transcripts and letters of recommendation?
A. All credentials (transcripts and letters of recommendation) must be sent directly to AADSAS. They are not to be sent to RSDM.

Q. How do I check the status of my application?
A. Please contact AADSAS directly.

Q. Do you accept transfer students from other dental schools?
A. We do not accept transfer students.

Q. If I applied to the dental school last year and was not accepted or wait listed, do I have to reapply through AADSAS?
A. Yes, you must reapply through AADSAS and resubmit all required information.

Q. Does RSDM require Criminal Background and Disciplinary Action Disclosure verification (Dean's Certification)?
A. Yes, we require both the Criminal Background and Disciplinary Action Disclosure forms be completed and results must be deemed favorable by RSDM.

Q. Does RSDM give preference to NJ residents?
A. Both in/out of state applicants are welcomed and encouraged to apply.

Q. Will I be notified once my file is complete?
A. Once your file is complete, it will be submitted to the admissions committee for review. If the committee selects you for an interview, you will be notified electronically.

Q. Can I visit the school to speak with an admissions representative?

Q. Is there financial aid available to dental students?
A. All accepted applicants are advised to contact the Financial Aid Office immediately to discuss aid and fill out all necessary forms. Please contact the Financial Aid Office   for additional information on aid, tuition, and fees.

Q. Is housing available to students?
A. Yes, there is a 14-story housing residence on campus. The building houses 463 students in 233 apartments. There are studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom models. Some have views of downtown Newark and the New York City skyline. There building has a security staff on duty 24/7 and has card access entry. There is parking in the adjacent deck, laundry facilities on each floor, an outdoor terrace on the 6th floor, and a quiet study lounge.
In addition, a significant number of RSDM students find housing in the many apartments located off-campus.

Q. How will applicants be notified if selected for an interview?
A. Those applicants who are selected for an interview will be notified electronically with all the necessary information concerning the interview process. All candidates are expected to confirm their attendance for the interview.

ADDITIONAL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL DENTIST PROGRAM APPLICANTS

Q. I am an international dentist and want to be licensed to practice in the United States?
A. RSDM has established an advanced standing program for Internationally Educated dentists to earn Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree [link to http://sdm.rutgers.edu/admissions/international-dentist.htm.]

Q. When does the application process begin?
A. The Office of Admissions will begin accepting applications between April 16 to October 19, 2018 for the class entering in the spring of the following year. It is strongly recommended that applications be submitted as early in the admissions cycle as possible.

Q. Are both the National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) Part I and II required in order to be considered for the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine International Dentist Program (IDP)?
A. Yes.  All applicants must submit an official board score report, demonstrating the successful completion of both part I and II. An application will not be processed without this information.

Q. How many students are enrolled into the International Dentist Program annually?
A. Approximately thirty five (35) individuals are enrolled into the IDP program each year.

Q. What are acceptable forms of proof of receiving a dental degree?
A. Applicants are required to submit a notarized copy of his/her official dental school diploma as proof of receiving a dental degree.

Q. Do I have to be a New Jersey resident and/or a U.S citizen?
A. No. The IDP is open to all qualified international trained dentists.

Q. Does RSDM have a minimum required National Board Score for both part I & II and the TOEFL?
A. No, however due to the competitive nature of the application process, applicants with stronger credentials are given preference in the selection process.
