PROGRAM GOAL: Match current NJ Dental School students with alumni to act as professional mentors. A mentor is defined as “a wise and trusted counselor or teacher.”

MENTOR'S ROLE: Most dental students know little or nothing about the practice of dentistry. The mentor’s role is to provide valuable practice advice depending upon the particular inquiries of the student. This could range from career planning advice to practice management advice to clinical advice. If the mentor is also a NJDS faculty member, the mentor is not to provide any dental school related advice.

MENTOR'S COMMITMENT: There are no set requirements, however, it is suggested that after the mentor and student are matched, within a month, that they meet in person at the mentor’s office then perhaps have lunch or dinner.

ALUMNI OFFICE ROLE: The alumni office will facilitate the “match” by correlating the student’s career interests with the mentor’s professional experiences. The alumni office is also planning a reception for the mentors and students with perhaps some career planning or practice management CE.

Interested alumni should email the alumni office at and provide the following:

office address and phone #
email address
cell phone #
year graduated
specialty, if any
type of practice (e.g., family, cosmetic, etc)
size of practice (e.g., group, solo, mixed specialty)
types of procedures you like to perform

Questions can be directed to the alumni office at (973) 972-6883.
